Is My Cat Food Healthy?
Cats are obligate carnivores, this means that without meat in their diet, they will die. A good way to tell if you're feeding a good quality cat food is to check the ingredients list on the back. The good foods will have a RECOGNISABLE meat listed as the first ingredient, followed by a percentage. Such as 'chicken (40%)' or 'Salmon (45%)'
Terms such as 'meat derivatives', 'vegetable derivatives' 'chicken MEAL' (essentially bone and no actual meat at all!) 'milk derivatives' and any form of sugar (such as 'glucose' or 'sugars') are all indicators that the food is of lower quality. This means you could save money by switching to a better quality food as you won't have to feed as much but the cat will feel fuller as the meal will be a better quality.
